Cookies

The short answer is that this site does not set any. What it does keep is a handful of settings on your own device, and this page lists every one.

1. The short version

Squire sets no cookies on this site, and no cookies in your dashboard. There is nothing here that follows you to another website, and there is no advertising network reading anything.

What the site does use is your browser's local storage, which is a box of settings that stays on your own machine. It holds things like whether you asked for light or dark, and, once you have signed in, the key that keeps you signed in. Section 2 is the whole list. The law treats local storage the same way as cookies, which is why this page exists.

2. What is kept on your device

Every entry below is local storage, not a cookie. None of it is read by anyone but this site, none of it is used to identify you to anyone else, and all of it survives a refresh so the site does not forget what you told it. None has an expiry date of its own: each sits there until you clear it or sign out.

On this site

pk-landing-theme: Light or dark, so the page opens the way you left it. A setting you chose.
pk-session: Your sign in, once you have entered the code we emailed you. It is what lets you open your dashboard without signing in again, and it is swapped for a fresh one before it runs out. Needed to run the service. Signing out removes it.
plausible_ignore: Only if you press the button in section 4. It tells the visit counter to leave you out.

In your dashboard

miTheme: Light or dark for the dashboard, which keeps its own setting. A setting you chose.
pk-page: The last screen you had open, so a refresh puts you back on it. Needed to run the dashboard.
pk-bell-seen: The point you had read up to in your notifications, so old ones stop looking new. Needed to run the dashboard.
pk-toured: Whether you have been shown the guided tour, so it only runs once. Needed to run the dashboard.
pk-support-v2: Your last thirty support messages, held on your device so the room still has them after a refresh. Needed to run the dashboard.
pk-tier: Lite or Pro while the dashboard is running on demonstration data. A real account takes its plan from the account, not from here.

3. What a page loads from elsewhere

The typeface, the animated Squire mark and every script on this site are served from our own address, so no outside company sees your visit just because a page loaded. Two things do go elsewhere, and neither sets anything on your device.

Our own API: When you sign up, sign in or use your dashboard, your browser talks to our server. That is the service working, not a third party.
Plausible: The visit counter in section 4, loaded from plausible.io.

4. Measuring how the site is used

We count visits with Plausible, a service run in the European Union that was built to measure a site without cookies. It records that a page was viewed and roughly where in the world from, and it records a handful of steps on the way to signing up, such as the calculator being used. It sets nothing on your device, keeps no identifier, and cannot tell that two visits came from the same person once the day is over.

Your dashboard is not measured. Neither is the demonstration dashboard on the home page.

Under UK law that kind of counting still needs to be explained, and this is the explanation. If you would rather not be counted at all, press this and the counter never loads for you on this browser:

If we ever moved to something that needed a cookie or an identifier, this page would change first and you would be asked before it ran.

5. Clearing it

Local storage is cleared the same way cookies are, from your browser's own settings, usually under privacy or site data. Clearing it for this site signs you out and forgets your theme, your last screen and your support messages, and nothing else. Signing out from your dashboard removes the sign in on its own.

Private browsing clears it when you close the window. Blocking it entirely does not break the site: every read and write is wrapped so the page still works, it just forgets your settings each time and asks you to sign in each visit.

UK law asks for consent before a site stores anything on your device that is not needed to deliver what you asked for. Everything in section 2 is either needed to sign you in and run the dashboard, or is a setting you chose yourself, and none of it is used for advertising or for measuring you. The visit counter stores nothing at all. So there is nothing here to ask permission for.

If that ever stops being true, the banner arrives with it.

7. Changes, and who to ask

If what the site stores or loads changes, this page changes with it and the version and date at the top move. Earlier versions are kept and you can ask for one.
